When is the best scenery of the garden?

The biggest charm of a garden experience is that one can enjoy the scenery differences depending on time and seasons. The purpose of this study is to verify how sequential landscape in a strolling garden depends on time and seasons.
On each day of spring, a summer solstice, summer and a winter solstice, photos were taken 3 times, 9:00-9:30, 12:00-12:30 and 15:00-15:30, at 11 points on the path of Genkyu-rakuraku-en, Hikone City. The percentage of the area of the shade was obtained through the image analysis and the transition in shadow during the 11 points was grasped quantitatively.
It was figured out that the sequence of alternating light and dark scenes were almost same except at 15:00-15:30 of the winter solstice. On the other hand, the light and dark of each viewpoint was different depending on time and seasons. The main factor was sun elevation, and in specific, defoliation of trees in winter solstice.
